Colorado Republican Civil War

I've said that it is up to the Republicans who support Referenda C & D to make sure it gets passed -- or else.  And they have been rising to the challenge, with Governor Owens featured on TV ads that explain in fairly calm terms the state's budget crisis and the "glitch" in TABOR that permanently ratchets down state revenue during recessions.  (I would like to see a Dem counterpart with Owens in the ads, though -- maybe Andrew Romanoff -- the way Owens would appear with Ken Salazar so often when they were both newly elected so they could both posture about how bipartisan they were.)

Much better, though, are the radio ads that attack the Independence Institute as the well-funded ivory tower intellectuals that they are.  As pacified points out at Soapblox Colorado, this ad was put together by a Republican media consultant who obviously knows how to play the attack ad game.  Democrats should take notes -- the ad contains several possible lines of attack that could be used in later campaigns against Republican ideas funded by think tanks.  I'd throw the word "conservative" in as a pejorative a couple of times ("big money from conservative special interests so embarrassed by what they're doing their names are hidden") but as is this is a good example of how to go negative against the Republican think tank establishment.
