A group of nearly 100 economists wrote to President Bush to criticize his Western environmental policies. The basic message: loosening environmental regulations in the name of helping the economy doesn't work; in fact, protecting the Western environment helps the economy in the long run. (Via RMPN.)

If loosening environmental regulations was the key to economic success in the West, Wyoming would be the most prosperous state in the region instead of having the region's most stagnant economy. Westerners shouldn't let anyone tell us we have to choose between the economy and the environment.
